Exciting news for sports fans in Oakland! This summer, Major League Cricket (MLC) is bringing professional cricket to the Coliseum, giving Bay Area residents a chance to experience one of the world’s most popular sports up close. Cricket, which ranks as the second most popular sport globally after soccer, is set to make a big splash in the city.
From June 12 to June 18, the Coliseum will host nine action-packed matches over seven days. Major League Cricket, an American professional league featuring seven teams—including the San Francisco Unicorns—announced that these games will showcase top cricket talent from both the U.S. and around the world.
MLC CEO Johnny Grave shared his enthusiasm, emphasizing that fans can expect an exciting, fast-paced version of cricket. “The best players from the United States and across the globe will be competing in this high-energy, three-hour format. With matches kicking off at 6 p.m., we encourage everyone—whether you’re a cricket fan or completely new to the sport—to come out and enjoy the experience,” he said.
Since the departure of the Oakland A’s, city officials have been working hard to bring professional sports back to the Coliseum. Recently, the Oakland Roots men’s soccer team played its home opener at the venue, and now, cricket is stepping up to keep the stadium buzzing with activity. The city hopes this is just the beginning, with plans to bring even more major events to Oakland in the future.
Tickets for the June matches start at just $20 and go on sale Thursday. Fans can purchase tickets at majorleaguecricket.com. Don’t miss this opportunity to witness world-class cricket right in Oakland!
