Margao (Goa) [India], September 17 (ANI): In a thrilling opener to the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season, Jamshedpur FC showcased remarkable resilience to overturn a deficit and emerge victorious against FC Goa at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa on Tuesday.

FC Goa initially took control of the match, holding a 1-0 lead until the 74th minute, courtesy of a goal by Armando Sadiku just before halftime. Sadiku capitalized on a precise pass from midfielder Rowllin Borges, driving the ball forward with seconds left in the first half and firing it past Jamshedpur FC’s goalkeeper Albino Gomes. Gomes had been steadfast throughout, denying FC Goa multiple times with his commanding presence and quick reflexes, particularly against long-range efforts from Sadiku and Carl McHugh.

Despite the early setback, Jamshedpur FC intensified their efforts as the match progressed. Their breakthrough came when Javier Siverio was fouled inside the 18-yard box by Onei Onaindia, earning a penalty. Siverio displayed composure under pressure, converting the spot-kick in the 74th minute to level the score.

The momentum swung in Jamshedpur FC’s favor, and head coach Khalid Jamil’s decision to adopt an aggressive strategy paid dividends. With relentless pressure on FC Goa’s defense, Jamshedpur FC kept pushing for a winner. Their persistence bore fruit in stoppage time when Mobashir Rahman executed a perfectly weighted lob to Jordan Murray on the left flank. Murray skillfully controlled the ball and, instead of passing, unleashed a powerful shot towards the near post. The ball struck the post and ricocheted into the net in the 93rd minute, sealing a dramatic win for Jamshedpur FC.

Albino Gomes’ performance between the posts was crucial in keeping Jamshedpur FC in contention throughout the match. His saves against long-range strikes were pivotal in preventing FC Goa from extending their lead. This victory not only highlighted Jamshedpur FC’s attacking prowess but also underscored their defensive resilience and strategic acumen.

Jamshedpur FC’s comeback win against FC Goa sets an exciting tone for their ISL campaign, demonstrating their capability to fight back under pressure and secure vital points away from home.
